MDH Everest Spice: Hong Kong bans the sale of these Indian spices, claiming pesticides in the products
The Hong Kong government has banned four products of India’s famous spice brands MDH Pvt Ltd and Everest Food Products Pvt Ltd. The Hong Kong government claims that during investigation, pesticides have been found in these spices, which is dangerous for health. The Hong Kong government has banned the sale of spices. Earlier, the Singapore government had also banned Indian spice brands.
Hong Kong government banned these products
Hong Kong’s Center for Food Safety department has reported that pesticide ethylene oxide has been found mixed in many spice products. The Hong Kong government has appealed to the people not to consume these products and also directed to stop the sale of these products with immediate effect. The spices that have been banned include MDH’s product Madras Curry Powder, Sambhar Masala Mix Masala Powder and Curry Powder Mix Masala and Everest’s product Fish Curry Masala. The Hong Kong government had ordered a ban on the import of these products and instructions to immediately remove them from the shelves in stores, as well as send back existing products.
Singapore had also banned
Hong Kong government officials had collected samples of these spices from three retail shops during routine food surveillance. After testing these samples, it was claimed that they contained pesticide ethylene oxide. An international agency doing research on cancer said that ethylene oxide can cause cancer in humans. The Hong Kong government has said that those who violate its instructions can face a fine of $50,000 and a jail sentence of six months. Recently, Singapore’s Food Agency had also banned Everest’s fish curry masala, claiming it contained pesticides.
