Microsoft: Microsoft has given right to pay Rs 117 crore due to discrimination
Microsoft Corp has agreed to pay $14.4 million (Rs 117 crore) to settle a case of discrimination against employees taking leave. The California Department of Civil Rights (CRD) confirmed this on Wednesday.
The California agency started investigating the case in 2020. Microsoft agreed to pay after the verdict in Santa Clara County court. An independent agency will monitor to ensure that further discrimination does not occur. In fact, the company gave less bonus to those employees who took leave due to pregnancy, disability, illness, taking care of a family member and other reasons. Also during his review he was shown inferior. Due to this, many employees were neither given salary increase nor promotion.
Eligible employees will get Rs 1.25 lakh
According to the court’s decision, the employees working in the company since May 13, 2017 will be paid. Each eligible employee will receive a basic payment of $1,500 (Rs 1.25 lakh). Apart from this, more amount will be given based on factors like salary and period of employment. Microsoft has about 221,000 employees worldwide, according to the state civil rights agency. About 7,000 of these are in California.
