TRAI takes strict action against fake callers, gives this big order to telecom companies
Telecom regulator TRAI is taking a tough stand against fake callers. In a major crackdown on fake callers, TRAI on Thursday said that telecom companies will shut down the telecom resources of those companies that misuse bulk connections to make fake calls. TRAI also said that all operators will blacklist such companies for two years.
Strict action is needed without any delay
Sending a strong message to companies using unfair practices, TRAI said that strict action needs to be taken without any delay against those using ‘PRI / SIP connection’ for voice calls / robo calls / pre-recorded calls. A day earlier, Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) Chairman Anil Kumar Lahoti said that the regulator will review and strengthen the rules to prevent fraudulent calls.
Officials from several companies took part in the meeting
TRAI held an important meeting with regulatory officials of all telecom service providers. The meeting, chaired by the TRAI chief, was attended by key regulatory officials from Airtel, BSNL, Quadrant Televentures Limited (QTL), Reliance Jio, Tata Teleservices Limited, Vodafone Idea Limited and V-Con Mobile & Infra Private Limited.
Officials of these two companies could not attend
Representatives of MTNL and Reliance Communications Ltd could not attend the meeting. TRAI said in a statement that after detailed deliberations, it was decided that if any company misuses its SIP/PRI (Session Initiation Protocol/Primary Rate Interface) lines for making fraudulent calls, then all telecom resources of the company will be disconnected by its Telecom Service Provider (TSP) and the company will be blacklisted.
