SpiceJet Crisis: SpiceJet’s troubles increased, DGCA increased surveillance, 150 crew members sent on leave without pay
The troubles of airline company SpiceJet, which is facing financial crisis, are not showing signs of abating. Aviation regulator DGCA has decided to further tighten surveillance on the company. Meanwhile, the company has sent 150 of its staff on leave without pay.
Will not get any salary for 3 months
The 150 employees whom SpiceJet has sent on furlough are cabin crew members. Sending an employee on furlough means that he has been given leave without pay. Currently the affected employees have been sent on furlough for 3 months. This means that those affected 150 crew members of SpiceJet are neither going to get any work nor are they going to get any salary for the next 3 months.
Work going on with only 22 aircraft
The airline company says that it has taken this decision due to its poor financial condition. In view of the economic problems, the company is already working on various measures to reduce expenses. Due to that the company has reduced the number of planes flying. Currently, SpiceJet is operating with a fleet of only 22 aircraft.
Company spokesperson gave this information
A spokesperson of the company said about the recent decision – SpiceJet has taken the difficult decision to immediately put 150 cabin crew members on furlough for 3 months. This decision has been taken keeping in mind the current softness of the travel season, small size of the aircraft fleet and long-term stability of the company. The spokesperson said that during the furlough period, the affected employees will continue to receive all health benefits and there will be no impact on their earned leave.
DGCA and High Court gave this blow
On the other hand, the aviation regulator has also increased the problems of budget airlines. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation i.e. DGCA has decided to put SpiceJet under comprehensive surveillance. The company has also suffered a setback in the court. Delhi High Court has ordered SpiceJet to ground 3 engines and return them to the leasing companies (leasers) within 15 days. The court has also pulled up SpiceJet for repeatedly failing to pay the dues of the lasers.
