Tata Steel News: Tata Steel closed this plant, thousands of people will be employed?

You must be aware of Tata Steel, a Tata Group company. It has a steel plant in Port Talbot, United Kingdom (UK). This is the biggest plant in that entire area. Steel production work has stopped in this plant. This decision has become effective from Wednesday. The company has also closed down the blast furnace, sinter plant and secondary steel plant and some energy systems located there.

The coke oven has already been shut down

Tata Steel had shut down a blast furnace and coke oven at its Port Talbot plant earlier this year. Actually, these plants are quite old and these assets have reached the final stage of their life. Operating this plant in its present form is not economically and environmentally viable.

A new plant is being set up

Rajesh Nair, Chief Executive Officer, Tata Steel UK, said, ‘We know that Port Talbot has been a well-known steel plant. Emphasis has always been laid on adopting new technology to increase production in this plant. These plants often set standards for other steel makers.’ ‘In that tradition, we are planning for a brighter, greener future through our £1.25 billion investment in low CO2 scrap-based steelmaking, which will sustain more than 5,000 jobs across the UK,’ he said. This will help keep Tata Steel’s business competitive across the UK.
