Timberland closed its stores in 2015

Let us tell you that Timberland had closed all its retail stores in India in the year 2015. In fact, Timberland had to close its stores amid tough competition in the Indian market amid legal disputes with Woodland. Timberland and Woodland, a subsidiary of US-based VF Corporation, were embroiled in a legal dispute over intellectual property. The reason for this was that the logo and product of both were similar. Not only were the logos of Woodland and Timberland similar, but their products were also similar.

Woodland entered India in 1992

Woodland’s parent company, Aero Group, has been in the industry since the 50s. Woodland was founded in Quebec, Canada and entered India in 1992. Before that, Aero Group used to export its leather shoes to Russia. After which the company decided to launch some of its products in India.

What did Reliance Industries say?
