MoU signed between India and Spain in many sectors including infrastructure, railways and tourism, know the details
Several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) were signed during a bilateral meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez in Gujarat’s Vadodara city on Monday. These agreements relate to infrastructure, rail transport and promotion of culture and tourism activities between India and Spain. Tanmaya Lal, Secretary (West) in the Ministry of External Affairs, said that during the bilateral talks held at the iconic Laxmi Vilas Palace in Vadodara, the two leaders also discussed the situation in Ukraine and West Asia.
Agreements in culture and tourism sector along with infrastructure and railways
He told reporters, “Both sides apprised each other of their stand on the Ukraine issue. Prime Minister Modi said that India is in favor of resolving any conflict only through dialogue and diplomacy. This is not the time for war, it cannot be resolved on the battlefield. ” Lal said that during the bilateral talks, India and Spain signed agreements for cooperation in areas such as culture and tourism along with infrastructure and railways. According to an official statement, a Memorandum of Understanding on Rail Transport was signed for cooperation in the planning, design, development, commissioning and operation of infrastructure, stations, railway facilities and equipment of long-distance passenger and freight networks along with urban and regional railway systems.
2026 will be celebrated as ‘India-Spain Year of Culture, Tourism and AI’
During the meeting, both sides agreed to celebrate the year 2026 as ‘India-Spain Year of Culture, Tourism and AI’. Apart from this, Cultural Exchange Program 2024-28 was also signed to promote bilateral exchanges in music, dance, theater, literature, museums and festivals. According to the statement, an agreement on cooperation and mutual assistance in customs-related matters was signed during the meeting. This will facilitate the exchange of information to detect, prevent, investigate and combat customs offenses. Spain talked about opening a consulate in Karnataka’s capital Bengaluru. India’s Consulate General in Barcelona became operational only in August this year. Lal said that the Spanish delegation included two ministers and 15 top officials of major companies there.
