OpenAI bought the oldest domain name from an Indian man for Rs 126 crore
OpenAI, the company that brought a new revolution in the tech world with the launch of ChatGPT, has again come into the limelight. This time the company has become a topic of discussion with the purchase of the domain chat.com, which is one of the oldest web addresses till date. OpenAI has bought this domain from HubSpot founder and CTO Dharmesh Shah. After the acquisition, chat.com has been redirected directly to ChatGPT.
Let us tell you that chat.com was first registered in 1996, making it one of the oldest domains. The special thing is that Dharmesh Shah had acquired it only last year, investing about USD 15.5 million (about Rs 130 crore) for this. Dharmesh had announced the sale of the domain in March in March, although the name of the buyer was not disclosed at that time. Later he shared the information about the sale through the social media platform X. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman confirmed the acquisition in a post simply stating “Chat.com”. The total purchase of more than $15 million shows that OpenAI is making big investments. As part of the deal, Shah received shares in OpenAI, although he has not yet disclosed it. After the sale, Dharmesh on X described chat.com as a very attractive domain that is necessary for building a successful product or company. With this acquisition, OpenAI is expanding its global availability through this domain.
Let us tell you that recently OpenAI has introduced a new chat history search feature which is different from ChatGPT’s ‘memory’ capacity. While the ‘memory’ function allows ChatGPT to recall information over time, the search tool is specifically designed to help users quickly find specific conversations without the hassle of never-ending scrolling. In such a situation, whether the users want to consult the previous chat or want to find the answers to the questions which they have not got answered, this search feature makes it easier to get the information.
