Milk News: This company will compete with AMUL and Mother Dairy – milk will travel 2500 km

Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF), which markets its dairy products under the Nandini brand, is set to expand its reach to New Delhi with fresh dairy products like milk and curd. Let us tell you that Nandini is the largest milk brand of Karnataka. It also has a strong hold in Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Maharashtra and Goa. The Nandini brand is owned by Karnataka Cooperative Milk Producers Federation Limited (KMF). KMF is the second largest dairy cooperative federation in the country after Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), which makes Amul.

Amul and Mother Dairy will face tough competition – KMF Managing Director MK Jagadeesh told Moneycontrol, “Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah will launch Nandini milk and curd products in the national capital on November 21. We will also launch idli and dosa batter in Bengaluru on November 26.

KMF sells its products in Karnataka, Maharashtra (including Mumbai, Nagpur, Pune and Solapur), Goa, Hyderabad, Chennai and Kerala.

The entry into Delhi will be an attempt to enter the north Indian market, where its Nandini brand competes with Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation’s Amul.

KMF plans to use 2,190 tankers to transport milk from Mandya to Delhi and surrounding areas, including parts of Haryana.

It is around 2,400-2,500 kilometres one way, requiring stringent quality control to ensure the milk remains fresh.

“The estimated quantity of milk to be transported per day is around 100,000 kg,” the official said.

With 33 kilolitre tankers, three tankers will be required per day. Including standby tankers, 25 tanks will be deployed.

KMF oversees a vast network of 15 unions, 24 lakh milk producers and 14,000 cooperatives across 22,000 villages in Karnataka.

It processes 8.4 million litres of milk per day and offers over 65 products. The federation distributes Rs 17 crore per day to farmers and reported a turnover of around Rs 19,800 crore in 2021-22.

KMF also supplies milk to the armed forces and exports milk to international markets such as the Middle East, Singapore, Bhutan, Myanmar and the US.
