Domestic airlines will have 1,400 aircraft in their fleet in 5 years, know how many airports there are in the country

In the next five years, the number of aircrafts owned by domestic airlines will increase to 1,400. Civil Aviation Secretary Vumlunmung Vulnam gave this information on Thursday. He also said that in the last 10 years, the number of airports in the country has also increased from 74 to 157. According to a PTI report, he said that the growth prospects of the country’s aviation sector are good and that currently the domestic airlines have about 800 aircrafts in their fleet and major airlines Indigo and Air India have placed a lot of orders for aircrafts.

Passenger numbers doubled to around 22 crores

According to the news, at a function in the national capital, the secretary also discussed opportunities for women in the aviation sector, including the drone segment. He also said that the number of passengers has doubled from 11 crores to around 22 crores. The secretary was speaking at the ‘Giving Wings to Dreams Awards 2024’ organised by Women in Aviation India in collaboration with the Ministry of Civil Aviation.

According to the secretary, the production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme of Rs 120 crore was successful and the total turnover of the beneficiary companies increased to Rs 1,400 crore. The first PLI scheme for drones, launched in 2021 with an outlay of Rs 120 crore for three financial years starting from the financial year 2021-22, has ended.

Airlines have given strong orders in the recent days

Tata Group-controlled Air India has ordered 85 more aircraft from Airbus, including 10 A350 aircraft. Earlier in the past one year, Air India has ordered 840 aircraft from Airbus and Boeing. This year, the country’s largest airline IndiGo has ordered 30 wide-bodied A350-900 aircraft. The company has the option to buy 70 more such aircraft. IndiGo, which has been active for about 17 years, currently operates 350 narrow-bodied aircraft.
