US approves sale of MH-60R helicopter equipment worth $1.17 billion to India
The way has been cleared for India to get MH-60R multi-mission helicopter equipment and related equipment from the US. The Biden administration has approved the sale of the related equipment. The cost of purchasing these equipment is $ 1.17 billion. According to the Political-Military Affairs, US Department of State, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency said in a notification to Congress that the proposed sale will improve India’s ability to deter current and future threats by upgrading anti-submarine warfare capabilities.
Approval given a few weeks before the completion of the term
According to the news, the Biden administration approved the sale of major defense equipment to India a few weeks before the completion of its four-year term. President-elect Donald Trump will be sworn in as the 47th President of the United States on January 20, 2025. The notification states that India has appealed to study, design, manufacture and support 30 multifunctional information distribution systems-joint tactical radio system facilities, support and test equipment, purchase war materials.
They will have to visit India
The main contractor for this sale is Lockheed Martin Rotary and Mission Systems. Implementation of the sale will require 20 US government or 25 contractor representatives to visit India on a temporary basis for program technical assistance and management oversight. This proposed sale will provide support to US foreign policy and national security objectives, helping to strengthen US-India strategic relations and improve the security of a major defense partner.
The proposed sale will improve the Indian government’s ability to deter current and future threats by upgrading anti-submarine warfare capabilities. India will have no difficulty in incorporating these equipment and services into its armed forces. Political-military affairs, the US State Department says that the proposed sale of this equipment and assistance will not change the basic military balance in the region.
