This Apple product will be assembled in India….
American devices maker Apple’s wireless earphones AirPods may soon start being assembled in India. This will be a major step in the company’s plan to increase manufacturing outside China. In the last few years, Apple has increased the manufacturing of iPhones in the country.
A media report has said that the company’s major contract manufacturer Foxconn is preparing to start manufacturing AirPods at a new factory near Hyderabad in Telangana. The report said that the trial of manufacturing AirPods has started. Along with the manufacturing of Apple’s iPhones in the country, exports have also increased. China and Vietnam have a major share in the manufacturing of AirPods.
Manufacturing of Apple’s iPhone in the country has reached $ 10 billion (about Rs 84,000 crore) between April and October of the current financial year. The company’s $10 billion manufacturing value is approximately $15 billion when account sales, distribution, marketing, logistics and margins are included. The share of iPhone exports in this total value is approximately $7 billion. Manufacturing for the company in October was the highest in a month with two billion dollars. The central government’s Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme has played an important role in the increase in Apple’s manufacturing. In the last four years, the company has created about 1,75,000 employment opportunities in the country. In the current financial year, the company’s target is to manufacture worth $18 billion. The government has planned to give incentives of five billion dollars (about Rs 42,221 crore) to companies in the electronics sector for local manufacturing of components from laptops to smartphones. This will reduce the supply from China. Apple is also preparing to invest about one billion dollars in setting up a manufacturing plant in Indonesia. Components for smartphones and other products will be made in this plant. Indonesia had banned the sale of the company’s iPhone 16 in October due to lack of local manufacturing. Recently, Indonesia’s Investment Minister Rosan Roeslani had said that the company’s investment plan is being finalized. He said that talks will be held with Apple to increase the investment.
