Starlink Satellite Internet: Elon Musk’s company is going to start service from April!
Elon Musk-led SpaceX is soon going to launch its Starlink Satellite Internet Service. It is expected to start in South Korea from April. According to news agency Yonhap, South Korea’s Ministry of Science and ICT plans to prepare regulations on the use of Starlink’s local frequencies later this week, which will increase the chances of its operations getting approval by March.
Internet service through satellite in low Earth orbit
After this, the Ministry of Government Legislation and the Office for Government Policy Coordination can approve it. Due to this, South Koreans may be able to use Starlink’s service in early April. SpaceX set up a subsidiary called Starlink Korea LLC to launch its Starlink service in South Korea in 2023. Starlink provides high-speed and low-latency internet service to users around the world through satellites in low Earth orbit.
Under South Korean law, foreign companies are required to sign a supply agreement with a local telecommunications business operator to start their communications network service in Korea. According to the report, the US space firm has not yet informed the ministry about the detailed timeline for the service launch.
Industry officials say that the launch of Starlink’s service in the country is expected to have limited impact on the main wireless communications services of local mobile companies because its cost is high and internet speed is slow.
