Maruti Suzuki Vitara Electric will be exported from India
The country’s largest car manufacturer Maruti Suzuki’s e Vitara will be introduced at the Auto Expo on Friday. This is the company’s first electric car. It will be sold in the country as well as exported. Competition has increased rapidly for Maruti Suzuki in the last few years. This has also affected the company’s market share.
Toshihiro Suzuki, director of Japan’s Suzuki Motor, which has a major stake in the company, believes that electric vehicles (EV) like e Vitara will be part of the strategy to meet the needs of customers. He said that Suzuki is committed to expanding business in India. e Vitara will be manufactured in the country. This electric car will also be exported to Europe, Japan and South America. Hyundai’s Creta Electric, which has a major stake in the automobile market, will also be launched at the Auto Expo.
Suzuki Motor has already displayed eVitara in Milan, Italy. However, it is not known whether the specifications of the European variant of this electric SUV will be given in the model to be launched in India or not. It will be manufactured on the HEARTECT-e platform specially designed for battery-powered electric vehicles. It has two separate electric axles at the front and rear. eVitara has a trail mode for driving on bad roads.
This electric SUV has two battery variants of 49 kWh and 61 kWh. eVitara has a single-speed drive transmission. Its range can be around 500 kilometers. The share of EV in the total sales of vehicles in the country is less than 10 percent. India is the third largest automobile market in the world after America and China. Despite this, the number of EVs in the country is less. However, the trend of reduction in international sales of EV is not seen in India. Between January and November last year, EV sales in the country increased by about 30 percent. Measures are also being taken by the central government to promote EV. There is no possibility of major change in the design of Creta Electric.
