Apple supplier Foxconn will double iPhone manufacturing in India

In the last few years, the manufacturing of American devices maker Apple’s iPhone in India has grown rapidly. Apple’s contract manufacturer Foxconn assembled about 12 million iPhones in the country last year. This year Foxconn plans to assemble about three crore units of iPhone.

A media report quoted sources as saying that a manufacturing trial is being conducted at Foxconn’s factory near Bengaluru in Karnataka. This trial is being conducted for the first phase of the plan to increase iPhone manufacturing in the country. In this trial, it is being investigated whether this factory can manufacture a large number of iPhones while meeting Apple’s stringent criteria. Foxconn may benefit from the announcement of tax exemption on import of smartphone parts in this year’s budget.

A recent report said that Apple also plans to start manufacturing AirPods, MacBook and iPad in the country. Apple plans to manufacture AirPods for export at Foxconn’s Hyderabad plant. The company has planned to shift part of its manufacturing to China. Manufacturing the company’s wireless earphones in the country will be an important step in this. Foxconn approved an investment of about $400 million for the manufacturing of AirPods in Hyderabad about two years ago.

The Karnataka government has recently given an incentive of about Rs 6,970 crore to Foxconn. This incentive has been given under the state government’s special scheme for the Electronics System Design and Manufacturing (ESDM) sector. Foxconn also has manufacturing plants in China. Apple’s affordable iPhone 16e, launched in February, has started assembling in India. It will replace the iPhone SE introduced about three years ago. The iPhone 16e being assembled in the country will be sold in India as well as exported to some countries. The company’s iPhone 16 series is also being assembled in the country. Apple started manufacturing iPhone Pro models for the first time in the country with the iPhone 16 series.
