CCI called Google’s allegation baseless, said- Google should sue the media house
Google had filed a writ petition against the Competition Commission of India (CCI) in the Delhi High Court over confidential data leak. Now on this petition, ASG N Venkataraman, on behalf of the CCI in the Delhi High Court, denied the allegation saying that the allegation is baseless. No data has been leaked by CCI to the media. Google should legally sue media houses that have published reports on confidential documents.
Google has told the Delhi High Court that it does not want the Competition Commission of India to make any confidential data illegally public. Google has directly accused CCI of leaking confidential data.
Google has said that it submitted an ongoing investigation report to the CCI this month regarding Google’s Android smartphone deal, which has been leaked to the media. Google says it has harmed the image of it and its partners.
It is also worth noting here that the CCI is also investigating Google’s monopoly in the web search market. Apart from this, Google’s Smartphone OS and Smart TV OS are also on the target of CCI, because all the companies are using Android TV OS apart from Android OS which is Google’s only. In such a situation, there can be an investigation about Google’s monopoly in this market too.
Google has said in its petition that confidentiality of documents is very important in any government investigation, while CCI has leaked such documents to the media. We are following the legal right to resolve this and demand that there should be no such data leak in future.
Google has further said that it has not yet presented its side regarding the ongoing investigation against it, nor has the CCI taken any final decision. In such a situation, sharing the document with the media is an unfair practice.
