Google will be cracked down: Indian Newspapers will benefit from the News Act passed in Canada! Google must share the right revenue.

The Canadian Online News Act was recently passed in a case related to the monopoly of news intermediaries such as Google and the misuse of position. Indian news papers and their digital news editions can benefit from this. Digital News Publishers Association (DNPA), which represents Indian News Papers, has said this.

The Canadian Online News Act has been passed at a time when the CCI in India has issued a notice to Google on a complaint filed by the DNPA. Google is accused of earning a significant amount of ad revenue on content generated from digital editions of newspapers, but not sharing a fair amount with publishers. This is causing huge financial loss to the publishers.

The Canadian Order provides for fair revenue sharing with news publishers. The DNPA said the Canadian order would give a boost to Indian newspapers and their digital editions. This is because this order will encourage and empower the Competition Commission of India (CCI) to take such a step.

DNPA complaint against Google in CCI

The DNPA had filed a complaint with the CCI against Alphabet, Google, Google India Private Limited and Google Ireland Limited (Google/OP) under Section 19(1) (a) of the Competition Act 2002. The association believes that Google has violated Section 4 of the Act. The CCI had ordered an inquiry against Google for misusing its monopoly in digital advertising on this complaint.

More than 50% of traffic through Google
The association also said that content generated by news media companies provides a platform on which advertisements can be run. At the same time, he said that more than 50% of the total traffic on news websites comes through Google. Being a big player in this field, Google, through its algorithm, decides which news website will come up through search.
