Cabinet meeting: Cooperative societies will be able to connect with GeM portal, this will help in bringing transparency and strengthening of societies
In the cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi today, cooperative societies will be linked to the GeM portal. Giving information about the decision taken in the cabinet, Cabinet Minister Anurag Thakur said that in order to bring transparency and strengthen the cooperative societies, they will be linked to the GeM portal. Co-operative societies will be able to sell their goods on the GeM portal.
He further informed that cooperative societies will be able to sell their goods on GeM portal. In 2017-18, 86,835 people had registered themselves to sell goods, which has increased to 41 lakhs. At the same time, more than 54 lakh products are being sold through the Gem portal. At the same time, 3.72 lakhs came on the GeM portal in 2017-18, which has increased to more than 33 lakhs.
What is Gem Portal?
E-portal GeM or Government e-Market Place is an online marketplace whereby any person can connect and do business with the government sitting at home. After registration, we supply according to the demand of government departments, as it happens in any market. To do this, one has to first contact the manufacturers and then the goods are supplied from there on demand. Anyone who is doing the right production and making goods of the standard set by the government, can sell their goods on the GeM portal.

To register on GeM, one has to first create a user ID and password by visiting the official website of GeM. To create a User ID, you have to enter your Aadhaar or PAN card, mobile number and e-mail ID. After creating the user ID, login to GeM and enter the details like office address, bank account, experience etc. on your profile.
