Now Google and Facebook will give money to news companies! Government can bring new law.

The Indian government may soon bring a new law to allow companies like Google, Meta, Twitter and Amazon to share revenue with local publishers and digital publishers. After its implementation, these tech companies will have to share the earnings from the original content of the publishers. These tech companies are not sharing fair revenue with news platforms due to lack of any strong law. In the current ad sharing revenue model, large tech companies have a major share of advertising revenue, due to which digital publishers are not able to get a fair revenue share.

Government preparing to bring new law

Union Minister of State for IT and Electronics Rajiv Chandrashekhar said that the government is preparing to bring new rules for this. The Union Minister said that the market power of digital advertising is currently being capitalized by big tech companies, which is hurting the Indian media companies. This is a big problem, for which new bills and laws are being examined to solve them.

Facebook, which started to connect people with each other, has now expanded its scope to grow as a news and media content sharing platform. At the same time, Google is no longer just a search engine, however, the American company has become a big platform for news sharing.

According to the Digital News Publishers Association (DNPA), more than 50 percent of website traffic comes through Google and Google, due to its ad revenue policy and algorithms, elevates any particular news channel and website to the top of the list. Before the Indian government brought a law for this, Google is being strictly enforced by making a policy in many countries.

Laws brought by many countries

Australia and France have enacted laws for tech platforms, including Google, to share revenue with local news publishers. At the same time, Canada and the UK (United Kingdom) are also preparing to introduce laws for these companies.

However, when the South American country of Brazil brought the ‘Brazil Law of Freedom, Responsibility and Transparency on the Internet’ law for these tech companies, Google, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter together asked the government to give revenue to the publisher for news content. Open letter was written against

The Competition Commission of India (CCI) has already raised questions about Google’s discriminatory policy. These tech companies may be under pressure after the government enacts a new law.
