India’s first center of excellence for online gaming to be built in Shillong, statement of Union Minister of State for IT Chandrashekhar.
Union Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology Rajeev Chandrashekhar on Friday said that the government will set up India’s first Center of Excellence in Online Gaming in Shillong by March this year. Digital India Startup Hub This online gaming center will be set up through Software Technology Parks of India. Explain that the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology had recently released the draft of the IT Rules, 2021 with respect to online gaming for public consultation.
The Union Minister said that the “Centre of Excellence” for online gaming will inspire startups and entrepreneurs from across the North Eastern region to build the next generation online gaming ecosystem. “It is the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji that the next wave of startups and entrepreneurs should come from Shillong, Kohima and other parts of the Northeast,” Union Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology Rajeev Chandrasekhar said during a two-day visit to Meghalaya.
Hi-tech center will be built for digital skills
Union Minister Chandra Shekhar also visited the Software Technology Park in Shillong and highlighted the importance of acquiring digital skills after the COVID pandemic. He said that a state-of-the-art facility would be set up under the National Institute of Electronics and IT (NIELIT) at Shillong to impart training on digital skills.
New rules for online gaming
The government recently released draft regulations for online gaming companies. As per the draft, the government proposed a self-regulatory mechanism for online gaming companies, mandatory verification of players and physical Indian addresses. Also online gaming companies will be brought under the new Information Technology (IT) rules. These rules were issued in the year 2021 for social media platforms.
Rules will be applicable from February
Rules will be made for all online games and online gaming companies, which may come into effect from February next month. At the same time, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Virtual Reality (VR) and Metaverse will also be included in these rules. The draft also calls for making online gaming safer for women and children.
