Industry: Industry becomes a leader on the technology front, Nirmala Sitharaman gives advice in discussion with FICCI.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said on Thursday that the industry should be a leader in technology. To move forward in this direction, the government will make things easier. Citing the example of the software industry, he said the sector started on its own and the government came later.
In a post-Budget interaction with members of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), the Finance Minister said that industry should look at its own potential. Then it should come up with the points on which it wants the government to facilitate. He said how the software industry started functioning in the country? Did he wait for Sarkar…No. They kept on going. In such a situation, the government also went ahead and brought favorable policies for them.
Come forward in the renewable energy sector
Sitharaman said, I want industries to come forward in the field of rare metals with renewable energy. There is immense potential for growth in this sector. Along with this, he assured the industry that the government would actively consider the suggestions given by them on various issues.
Will keep an eye on capital expenditure regularly
On capital expenditure, the Finance Minister said that capital expenditure has been increased to further strengthen the economy and generate employment opportunities. The government will monitor this on a regular basis. States will also use the fund for infrastructure development. He said that the Center has allocated Rs 1.3 lakh crore in 2023-24 to the states. This is 30 percent more than the current financial year. Most of the funds that have been allocated to the states are unconditional.
