Google Fine: Google gets a blow from NCLAT, will have to pay a fine of Rs 1337.76 crore in 30 days.

The National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT) has upheld a CCI order in a case related to abuse of its dominant position in Android. CCI imposed a fine of Rs 1,337.76 crore on Google. The National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT) on Wednesday gave the company 30 days to pay the fine and implement the order.

Google accused of using its dominance to influence the market

Recently, the Competition Commission of India, an agency that monitors competition among companies in India, imposed a fine on Google accusing it of influencing the market by using its dominance. Google challenged this decision before the NCLAT. However, Google had termed the allegations leveled against it as wrong.

NCLAT’s two member bench asked to deposit the fine amount in 30 days

A bench of NCLAT Chairman Justice Ashok Bhushan and member Alok Srivastava asked Google to comply with the directions and deposit the fine amount within thirty days. The two-member bench of NCLAT has also made some amendments in the order of the Competition Commission. The NCLAT has also rejected Google’s appeal that the Competition Commission has violated natural justice in the investigation.

Google was fined by CCI on October 20 last year

Let us tell you that on October 20 last year, CCI had found Google accused of indulging in anti-competitive activities by taking advantage of its dominance in the case of Android mobile devices. CCI imposed a fine of Rs 1,337.6 crore on Google. The CCI had also directed Google to refrain from indulging in unfair trade practices. The same decision of the Competition Commission was challenged in the Appellate Tribunal.
