The Government of India is planning to take action against Google in the matter of anti-competitive practices. In an interview to news agency Reuters, Federal Deputy Minister for Information Technology, Rajeev Chandrasekhar has given this information. Last year, the antitrust watchdog found that Google had abused its market position. Google was also fined $275 million in two cases.
Federal Deputy Minister for Information Technology Rajeev Chandrasekhar said such findings are “serious” and cause “deep concern” for the Indian government. That’s why she will take her action against Google. Chandrashekhar said that ‘the ministry will have to take action. We have thought about it. You will see it in the coming weeks. The minister declined to specify what kind of policy or regulatory action the government might take.
This is worrying for the entire digital ecosystem
Chandrasekhar said that this issue is not only for us but it is worrying for the entire digital ecosystem in India. However, Google has not responded to Chandrasekhar’s comment. Asked whether he has held talks with Google on the issue, Chandrasekhar said there was no need for any discussion. Chandrasekhar’s statement came amid growing tension between Indian companies and Google.
