Meta launches AI language model ‘Lama-2’: ChatGPT and Google’s Bard will compete, partnered with Microsoft.
Meta, the parent company of social media platforms Facebook and Instagram, launched the AI language model Lama-2 on Tuesday. It can be used for free for research and commercial purposes. The company has described it as the next generation open-source language model.
Promotes open source innovation
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg wrote in a Facebook post, ‘Open source promotes innovation because it enables many developers to create new technology. Being open source software, more people can test it to identify and fix potential problems. Due to this, its security is continuously improved. I believe that if the ecosystem is open then there is more progress. This is the reason why we are open sourcing Lama-2.
ChatGPT and Google’s Bard will compete
Meta’s Llama-2 will compete with ChatGPT and Google’s Bard. Bard was launched by the company’s CEO Sundar Pichai at the Google I/O 2023 event. The AI chatbot ‘Bard’ was launched in more than 180 countries. Earlier it was only available in UK and US. At the same time, OpenAI’s chatbot was launched on 30 November 2022.
Meta and Microsoft partnered
Mark Zuckerberg told that Meta has partnered with Microsoft to introduce Llama-2. According to media reports, both the companies are teaming up for the Lama-2 model. Lama-2 can be accessed through Microsoft’s Azure cloud service.
