Vodafone-Idea made outstanding payment of Rs. 1700 crore to the government: 5G spectrum was purchased in 2022, the company has a debt of Rs. 2.1 lakh crore
Telecom operator Vodafone-Idea Limited has paid Rs 1,700 crore to the government for 5G and some other spectrum. The company had purchased these spectrum last year. But the company, which is in debt of about Rs 2.1 lakh crore, had delayed its payment, due to which it had to make some additional payments.
A government official said that a check of Rs 1,700 crore has been received from Vodafone-Idea for spectrum and liability. The company is currently going through a financial crisis due to lack of subscribers. The government has 33% stake in Vodafone-Idea Limited. The government has taken this stake in exchange for some interest payment.
Shares of the telecom operator have risen by more than 51% in the last one month. On Friday (September 15), the company’s stock rose 9.63% to Rs 11.95, its highest level in a year. At the same time, the company’s shares have increased by 109.65% on an annual basis.
Vodafone-Idea and BSNL users decreased
According to the report of Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), the number of users of the company had continuously decreased in June 2023. 12.85 lakh users of Vodafone-Idea had left the network during this period. With this, the total number of customers of the company has come down to 22.97 crore. Earlier, the company had lost 28.2 lakh users in May 2023.
