GeM Portal: Purchases from GeM cross Rs 2 lakh crore, purchases can cross Rs 3 lakh crore

Due to increase in purchases by ministries and departments, goods and services worth more than Rs 2 lakh crore have been purchased from the Government e-Marketplace (GeM) so far in the current financial year. A historic achievement for GeM, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal wrote on the social media platform (X).

In just eight months of 2023-24, the purchase figure from this portal has crossed Rs 2 lakh crore. In 2021-22, purchases worth Rs 1.06 lakh crore were made from this portal. In 2022-23, this figure had crossed Rs 2 lakh crore and in the current financial year it may cross Rs 3 lakh crore.

More than 62 lakh sellers on the portal

GeM has over 63,000 government buyer organizations and over 62 lakh seller-service providers. At present, government departments, ministries, public sector units, state governments and central armed police forces are allowed to transact through this portal.
