Air India: Change in the order of 250 aircraft of Airbus, the airline will now have more number of A321 Neo aircraft

Tata Group-owned Air India had ordered 250 aircraft from Airbus earlier this year, but will now have a larger number of A321neo aircraft. Sources gave this information.

Actually, the airline was to buy 210 narrowbody A320 family aircraft as part of the order for 250 aircraft from Airbus. Which included 140 A320neo and 70 A321neo and the remaining 40 widebody A350 aircraft. The source said that Air India has made changes to the order with Airbus. Now it will acquire 140 A321 Neo and 70 A320 Neo.

The source said Air India has changed the earlier order of six A350-900 and 34 A350-1000 to 20 A350-900 and 20 A350-1000. An Air India spokesperson said, we regularly review our orders based on business needs and opportunities and make appropriate changes to the contract. When contacted for comment, Airbus said, “It is up to our customers to disclose this strategy.”

Tata Group took control of loss-making Air India in January 2022. Earlier this year, Air India had placed an order for 470 aircraft with Airbus and Boeing for $70 billion (based on published price list). The order includes 190 Boeing 737 MAX narrowbody planes, 20 Boeing 787 Dreamliner and 10 Boeing 777X.
