The magic of Indian payment systems like UPI is working in countries across the world. In a joint statement at the 21st India-ASEAN summit held in Vientiane, it has been informed that India will share its experience and knowledge related to the use of digital public infrastructure (DPI) like Aadhaar and UPI with ASEAN countries. According to Bhasha news, the possibility of cooperation will also be explored to solve various challenges in education, health care, agriculture and climate change.

According to the news, in the joint statement issued after the 21st India-ASEAN summit held in Vientiane, both sides said that they will explore the possibility of cooperation in cross-border relations between payment systems in ASEAN and India through innovative digital solutions. Both sides also talked about strengthening the ASEAN-India comprehensive strategic partnership for peace, stability and prosperity in the region. The statement reaffirmed the importance of maintaining and promoting peace, stability, maritime security and safety, freedom of maritime transport and overflight and other legitimate uses of the sea in the region. This includes promoting uninterrupted legitimate maritime commerce and peaceful resolution of disputes.

In his closing speech, Modi said that the two joint statements we have adopted to strengthen digital transformation and our comprehensive strategic partnership will form the basis for our cooperation in the future. Leaders of 10 member countries of ASEAN participated in this summit. This summit is taking place at a time when the region is witnessing tension between the Philippines and China over maritime issues in the South China Sea and the crisis in Myanmar. India and ASEAN countries also agreed to explore the possibility of partnership between national agencies for financial-technology innovation and to support digital solutions including digital financial solutions.
Consensus in favor of expanding cyber security cooperation
India’s digital public infrastructure includes the trinity of identity (Aadhaar), payments (UPI) and data management (DigiLocker). Healthcare sector initiatives include the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission and e-Sanjeevani for tele-medicine. The two sides said they are in favour of expanding cybersecurity cooperation to support the digital economy. As we gradually move towards increasingly digital economies, we will strive to ensure the security and resilience of digital infrastructure and services, the joint statement said. ASEAN members include Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Brunei, Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar and Cambodia.
