Meta, the parent company of platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Whatsapp, is going to layoff again. This will be the second large-scale layoff of the company in which about 4 thousand employees will be affected. Meta is going to lay off those employees who are not performing very well according to the company. By laying off such employees, the company is planning to recruit new employees in their place.
Meta has given sleepless nights to the employees by announcing a big layoff in early 2025 itself. Mark Zuckerberg’s company is going to reduce 3600 employees from its workforce. Through this layoff, 5% of the employees will be laid off from the company. According to the report, the company has given this information on Tuesday. The company had 72,400 employees working till September. Regarding performance based layoffs, Mark Zuckerberg said that the company wants to ensure that the strongest talent is present inside Meta.
Meta is not the first company that is going to do performance based layoffs. Such layoffs are often seen in big companies of America. Microsoft has also done similar layoffs last week in which the company reduced about less than 1 percent of the workforce.
Talking about other news related to layoffs, Google has also announced big layoffs recently. Officers of high positions will be included in this layoff. These will include roles like Managerial and Directors. Positions like Vice President will also be included in the layoff. Overall, the company is preparing to remove 10% of the employees from the company.
This layoff in Google is being done in view of the increasing competition in the field of AI. Also, the company aims to double the efficiency. Some of the 10 percent layoffs have been transferred to Individual Contributor roles. While some roles have been eliminated by the company. According to the report, CEO Sundar Pichai had indicated in a unanimous meeting that the roles of manager, director and vice president would be cut.
