Manufacturing of Apple’s affordable iPhone 16e started in India, will also be exported

Assembly of American devices maker Apple’s affordable iPhone 16e has started in India. The company launched this smartphone last week. It will replace the iPhone SE introduced about three years ago. Apple has increased its manufacturing in the country in the last few years.

A media report quoted the company as saying that the iPhone 16e being assembled in the country will be exported to some countries along with sales in India. Earlier, the company’s iPhone 16 series is also being assembled in the country. Apple started manufacturing iPhone Pro models in the country for the first time with the iPhone 16 series. Earlier, the company’s Pro models were assembled in China. Taiwan’s Foxconn is the largest contract manufacturer for the company. Foxconn has manufacturing plants in India and China. Some other contract manufacturing companies also assemble iPhones and other devices of the company. India’s Tata Electronics is also included in these.

The iPhone 16e has support for OLED display and Apple Intelligence features. A major upgrade in this is the company’s new proprietary C1 modem. Apple has spent a lot of money to make the C1 modem in the last few years in an attempt to reduce its dependence on Qualcomm for the supply of 5G modems. The company claims that this is the most efficient modem of the iPhone. This provides fast and reliable 5G connectivity. The internal design of the iPhone 16e and the advanced power management of iOS 18 also increase the duration of battery usage. Apple has said that the new iPhone can give up to 26 hours of video playback. In comparison, the iPhone 16 has about 22 hours of video playback on a single charge.

Last year, Apple set a record for smartphone shipments in the country. The company’s iPhone shipments grew by about four percent year-on-year to about 151 million units. According to a report by market research firm International Data Corporation (IDC), Apple’s smartphone shipments grew by seven percent in the first half of last year. However, in the second half, growth for the company declined to two percent.
