PM Modi will preside over ASEAN-India summit today

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Vietnam Prime Minister Nguyen Shuan Phuc will jointly chair the ASEAN-India Virtual Summit today. During this time, along with many major issues, there can be a talk on increasing trade between India and ASEAN. What is ASEAN?

ASEAN stands for Association of Southeast Asian Nations. It is an organization of Southeast Asian countries. The 10 member countries of ASEAN include Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

ASEAN countries have a conference every two years to discuss economic, political, security, social issues of Southeast Asian nations. The 37th conference of ASEAN is being held in a virtual manner from 12 to 15 November this year. This year, ASEAN is chaired by Vietnam.

India is a Dialogue Partner

Ten countries including India are Dialogue Partners of ASEAN. Apart from India, these include Australia, Canada, China, Japan, South Korea, New Zealand, Russia, USA and the European Union. This year, Vietnam has invited all 10 Dialogue Partners to attend its annual conference. Before this, a virtual summit has been organized between ASEAN and India on Thursday i.e. today.
