China shocked, Amazon will now make devices in Chennai

An Amazon decision is a major setback for China. Amazon India has said that it will start local manufacturing of its devices here. The company will reduce its dependence on China. This will accelerate the government’s Make-in-India campaign. E-commerce giant Amazon will work with Foxconn subsidiary Cloud Network Technology to build its Fire TV stick in Chennai.

Fire TV stick is requested from China and Taiwan right now

The Chennai factory is expected to be operational by the end of this year. Currently, Amazon is sourcing its Fire TV Stick from China and Taiwan for the Indian market. Amazon India has said in a blog post that the company is preparing to manufacture millions of devices every year in India and will consider increasing manufacturing capacity in view of domestic demand.

Amazon’s popular devices include Fire TV Stick, e-book Kindle and smart speakers Echo. Apart from this, the company also sells products under Amazon Basics, mostly made-in India. The Government of India has recently introduced Production Link Incentives (PLIs) for different electronic products. Amit Agarwal, head of Amazon India, tweeted, “This confirms our commitment to Make-in India”.
