Vaccine and medicines will be delivered to remote areas of the country by drone, this company is preparing

The major express logistics service provider Blue Dart said on Thursday that it has formed the Blue Dart Med-Express Consortium, under which vaccines and emergency medicines will be supplied with the help of drones in remote areas of India. The company said in a statement that the Blue Dart Med-Express Consortium is part of the ‘Medicine from the Sky’ project launched in association with the Telangana government, World Economic Forum, NITI Aayog and HealthNet Global.

The Ministry of Civil Aviation (MOCA) has approved the project with the necessary relaxation for drone flights on a pilot basis in Telangana. The aim of the project is to create an alternative logistics route to deliver health items (medicines, Covid-19 vaccines, blood, clinical samples and other life-saving devices) from distribution centers to specific locations, the release said.

What will be the benefit?

Blue Dart Med-Express’s drone flight will adopt an immersive delivery model. This will lead to delivery from district medical stores and blood banks to primary health centers and community health centers. Similarly, delivery will be done from Primary Health Centers and Community Health Centers to Central Diagnostic Laboratories. On this occasion, Blue Dart Managing Director Balfour Manuel said that we have always been using the technology of the future. This is the reason why our journey has not stopped even in this period of a pandemic.

Speaking on the occasion, the Principal Secretary (IT & Industries) of Telangana said that Telangana is one of the states which are active in adopting emerging technology. In the Medicine from the Sky project, drones are being used on the same principle. This is the first project of its kind in the country. It aims to provide healthcare facilities in rural areas.
