Government’s initiative for health workers fighting Covid, District Magistrate will certify claims under PM scheme, will be settled in 48 hours

The District Magistrate will certify the claims of health workers under the PM Insurance Scheme and the company will settle in two days. In fact, for healthcare workers fighting Covid, the government has introduced a new system for quick settlement of claims under the Centre’s insurance scheme, under which, the District Magistrate will authenticate the applications and the insurance company will settle them within 48 hours.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Union Health Ministry said that states and other stakeholders have been raising the issue of delay in settlement of insurance claims under the scheme. According to the ministry, to avoid delay and make the process easier, a new system has been created, under which the District Magistrate will authenticate the applications and the insurance company will dispose of them within 48 hours.

Let us inform you that the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Package Insurance Scheme was launched on 30 March last year for health workers fighting Covid-19. However, it was valid for three months after its introduction, but later it was extended.

The Health Ministry has informed all the State Governments and Union Territory Administrations about this new arrangement to be implemented with immediate effect.

The central government has already extended this scheme for one year from April 24, the statement said.

The protection of frontline workers’ healthcare providers remains the top priority of the government and hence it has revived this insurance policy for a period of one year.
