After India, Russia is bringing new IT law, will tighten the screws on social media companies
The Government of India has recently implemented the new IT Act, on which there was a lot of controversy. Legal protection has also been withdrawn from Twitter due to non-compliance of new IT rules in time, after which several FIRs have taken place on Twitter within just 10 days. After India, now Russia is also going to bring new laws regarding social media. Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a new IT law.
After the implementation of this law, all social media companies including Google, Facebook and Twitter will have to open their offices in Russia. This information has been received from a document issued by the Russian government. It is being said that the Putin government is bringing a new IT law to stop the arbitrariness of social media companies.
For your information, let us tell you that Russia has been trying to reduce its dependence on foreign IT companies for some time and the new law is a part of that. Just a few days ago, Russia declared some online content illegal and fined tech and social media companies for not deleting it.
Russia had also decided to reduce the speed of American micro-blogging site Twitter as a punishment. Recently Russia has started a new case against Google.
Let us inform that the Government of India has implemented new IT rules from 26 May, under which social media companies have to deploy a Grievance Redressal Officer and Nodal Officer in India. Apart from this, if there is a complaint regarding any content, it will have to be removed within 24 hours and every month the companies have to submit a report of complaints to the Government of India.
